When Terri Raines was twenty–seven years old, she packed her bags and embarked on an adventure that altered the course of her life. In a wildlife park in Australia, Terri unexpectedly met a robust, rugged man notorious for plummeting in the mud with crocodiles. A wildlife rescuer herself, Terri had an instant connection with Steve Irwin, later known as the Crocodile Hunter. Steve and Me by Terri Irwin is an endearing true tale that captivates the reader with heartfelt moments, descriptive scenes and unbelievable explorations of dangerous terrain.
Terri does a masterful job at describing her relationship with Steve. A sense of sincerity weaves through the canvas of Steve and Me. Terri profoundly writes, “Keep these three things in your heart: faith, because it can move mountains, hope, because it keeps you going no matter what, and love, the greatest of all.” Steve and Terri lived these words. Both serve as role models for when the going gets tough, triumph over adversity.
Prepare to be bewildered by Steve’s sense of traveling around and commitment to protecting animals. Family pictures make the story come alive and confirm affection for nature. A passionate dream to leave an activist mark on the planet brings the reader to a new level of realization that “anything is achievable with determination.” Australian terminology at book’s conclusion reinforces an authentic learning discovery.
Steve and Me is a phenomenal read for environmentalists, gardeners, naturalists and those who care about this planet. Have tissues in close proximity; you will be sure to wipe your eyes a few times. Families can engage in this book, because children will be inspired by Bindi and Robert, the Irwin’s children, as they find hope in their mother’s outlook on the world even after their father’s death.
Terri Irwin continues a legacy of educating people about crocodiles, rare species and environmental protection. She is the owner of the Australian Zoo and co-starred with her husband on the Crocodile Hunter, Croc Files and Crocodile Hunter Diaries. Terri speaks from the heart: “Robert, Bindi and I would do our best to make sure Steve’s light wasn’t hidden under a bushel. It would continue to shine as we worked together to protect all wildlife and all wild places.”
As we left the restaurant,Steve said," You know I smell ducks."
We walked outside and sure enough, there was a flock of beautiful ducks bobbing araund in a pond....
Of cours the resort and the pondhad been there for years and Steve had known about the ducks for just as long.....
